The type of work we do can’t be learned at a school or from a book. There are no courses, dvd’s or seminars on how to refinish, restore and repair brass, bronze and silver…it must be learned from experience, from one skilled worker teaching another.
It is from this background that our technicians, Virgil Aromin, Manny Reis and Vincent Galang perform their skill on the thousands of unusual, sometimes rare and valuable, pieces that cross our door. Ninety percent of the time, they don’t need to be told what to do with the pieces presented to them…they just know, having done so many before. You could say the brass speaks to them….and they listen!
There is no secret, no magic chemicals or process to metal refinishing…it takes hard and sometimes dangerous work, a very good eye for historical finishes and a skill perfected by years of hands on training. Virgil and Vinny hail from the Philippines and Manny from the Azores, all bringing old world work ethics to Brassworks which earns them the admiration of all their peers. I’ve often said, when they retire, this department will close down because they are irreplaceable. Get them to restore your brass, bronze and silver now before we no longer offer that service!
